Solid construction

The GDO gate is designed for use in demanding retail applications. The gate and hinge post are solid welded assemblies, fabricated from steel. The hinge posts have a rugged gravity closure mechanism that closes the gates after opening.

Solid steel strike plates are welded to the front of each gate. When used for directional control of shopping carts, entering patrons push their carts against the strike plate. The plate is covered by noise dampening strips that absorb impact and substantially reduce metal on metal clanging noise.

Inexpensive and effective shoplifting control

Shoplifting is a major problem for retailers. Estimates of yearly losses for retailers due to theft are from 1% – 8% of gross sales. A directional control system for shopping carts is a highly useful tool to deter thieves from rolling out of the store with your profits.

The GDO, combined with our turnstiles and modular post and rail are inexpensive and effective tools for reducing theft and improving your bottom line. Our products allow you to channel entering patrons toward desirable merchandise areas and exiting patrons toward check stands or other monitored areas. Creative ways to control cart traffic

For example, two GDO gate sets can be used in a dual front/back or “sally port” configuration (shown below). In this application customers entering with shopping carts can pass through two sets of GDO gates with little difficulty. However, patrons trying to wrongfully exit through this setup must awkwardly pull open both sets of gates while pulling their loaded cart behind them.
