The Watchman Safeguards Ohio Distribution Center

One of the largest supermarket chains in the U.S. decided to act when forklift loads began regularly striking the overhead entrance to the refrigerated area of one of its distribution centers. Not only was fixing the reoccurring damage to the custom designed cold storage ceilings expensive, but with offices located directly above the overhead entry area, management was concerned about the safety of both warehouse and office employees.

After discussing possible solutions, management and a contractor decided to provide 40 of Alvarado’s battery powered Watchman low clearance alarm bars to protect the ceilings and office areas. The Watchman hangs in front of and slightly below an overhead door, conveyor or fixture and emits a loud siren and flashing red lights when struck by a forklift or load. The combination of visual and a loud alarm alerts the forklift operator and management of an impending collision, preventing both property damage and personal injuries.

The supermarket and installing contractor recognized the benefit of installing the Watchman. “The Watchman will prevent accidents and potentially save thousands of dollars in damages, lost productivity and workman’s comp claims,” said the Contractor. “In addition, the Watchman reinforces safe forklift operating principles.”

Hundreds of companies have chosen Alvarado’s Watchman to warn forklift operators and management of potential forklift collisions before they happen. Typical installation locations include distribution centers, warehouses, manufacturing facilities and parking structures.
