Shopping for a Solution
A major grocery retailer was looking for a loss prevention solution and turned to Alvarado for an answer.
Alvarado’s senior sales rep. for asset protection, Dale Staton, custom-tailored a solution utilizing a combination of Alvarado turnstiles, pedestrian gates and modular posts and railing that both reduced theft and controlled the flow of customers in and out of the supermarket.
Working with installer Garda Construction, Staton designed a solution using Alvarado’s GST four-arm turnstile to provide entry access. The GST rotates in one direction and has a curved arm design that makes it difficult for would-be thieves to crawl under the turnstile. A CFG pedestrian gate was added, providing access for special needs patrons. The CFG can be configured to swing 90 degrees in either the entry or exit direction.
For shopping cart access, Staton suggested use of a self-closing, single direction opening, GDO gate. The GDO has a cushioned “crash plate” to allow patrons and employees to push carts against the gate to open. Because it only opens in the entry direction, the gate deters potential thieves from exiting with a cart full of unpaid items.
Rounding out the design, Alvarado post and railing was used to control the flow of entry traffic through the turnstile and gates.
Since the install of the Alvarado solution, the store has seen a significant reduction in theft, proving yet again that Alvarado’s turnstiles, gates and railing are an extremely effective and inexpensive way to reduce theft and enhance the bottom line.
