Pep Boys recently redesigned its store layout, creating a central island to serve both the parts and service departments. It needed an effective system to manage customer lines at the island. It also needed to define an area for shopping carts so that customers knew where to collect and return them. Both solutions needed to be implemented quickly and with minimal effort.

Auto parts retailer chooses Alvarado stanchion solution in redesigning store layout

Background

Since 1921, Pep Boys has been the nation’s leading automotive aftermarket chain, with more than 7,000 service bays in more than 700 locations. Pep Boys offers name-brand tires, automotive maintenance and repair, parts and expert advice for the Do-it-yourselfer.

In 2011, Pep Boys began to expand its business and looked to Alvarado for expert advice and solutions.

Challenge

Pep Boys recently redesigned its store layout, creating a central island to serve both the parts and service departments. It needed an effective system to manage customer lines at the island. It also needed to define an area for shopping carts so that customers knew where to collect and return them. Both solutions needed to be implemented quickly and with minimal effort.

Solution

APQ_CASE_Pep-Boys-QueueAlvarado’s Quick Queue retractable belt stanchions were selected to effectively manage customer lines. Quick Queue stanchions are easy to move where they are needed most and offered Pep Boys the quick, flexible crowd control it was looking for.

In addition, Alvarado’s modular post and rail was installed to create a “corral” for shopping carts near the front of the store. Installation was effortless and required no special tools.

Alvarado Advantage

Quick Queue stanchions are simple to set up, easy to relocate to where needed and rugged enough to withstand years of use.

APQ_CASE_PNR_Pep-BoysModular post and rail allows flexibility in design and installation. The railing may be cut to length to match any store design, making it ideal for chains whose stores vary in size and configuration.

Impact

Pep Boys has integrated Alvarado’s Quick Queue stanchions into it’s new store concept and is pleased with the flexibility they afford. Lines are well organized and allow for ample traffic flow around the central island.

There is now a distinct cart location for customers. This reduces the time employees spend collecting carts and maintains an uncluttered storefront.
