Alvarado worked directly with the automotive manufacturer, the security integrator and electrical contractor to ensure that each phase of the project was properly coordinated. The end result was an on time delivery of 33 lanes of SU5000 and a great functioning physical access control solution that met all the project requirements.

Improved security for the world’s largest automotive manufacturer in four weeks

At the corporate facility of the world’s largest automotive manufacturer, personnel and visitors could come and go with limited accountability. Largely reliant on the honor system, the company relied on a combination of guard personnel and access control software to validate credentials and control access. The company recognized that there was a security limitation in its existing system that needed to be quickly addressed.

It was determined that integrating optical turnstiles with the existing access control software could substantially improve building security. The turnstiles needed to:

  • Restrict access to authorized personnel only
  • Integrate multiple employee card reader types
  • Integrate a bar code reader for visitors
  • Be intuitive for users
  • Provide highly reliable operation
  • Deliver in 4 weeks

In addition, the optical turnstiles needed to be compact and highly attractive, to blend in with the high end corporate environment.

“The turnstiles have proven to be highly reliable and blend beautifully with their surrounding environment. Security has vastly improved and the end user is now able to ensure that only valid users are allowed entry.”

The Challenge

With the project deadline fast approaching, the automotive company looked for a U.S-based manufacturer who could meet its requirements. After being contacted, Alvarado quickly determined how to integrate the existing facility readers with its SU5000 product and determined how it could organize its manufacturing schedule to meet the customer’s requirements. “Our employees enjoy meeting the needs of our customers,” said Alvarado’s CEO Bret Armatas.

After a brief review, Alvarado’s SU5000 optical turnstile was selected for the project. The user felt the product offered an ideal blend of form and functionality, and was impressed with Alvarado’s large installation base, customer testimonials and the fact the product is made in the USA. “We’ve been in business over 60 years and are proud to be the longest running turnstile manufacturer in the United States, said Armatas.

The Follow Through

SU5000 Optical Turnstile Product Highlights

The SU5000 is simply a beautiful product. Its clean visual lines, contoured edges and liberal use of crystal clear materials create a very upscale look, making it a great choice for corporate environments. With the industry’s slimmest cabinet design, its compact footprint also makes it an ideal choice where space is a premium. Its versatile clear swinging panels are available in waist high, mid-height, or full-height options. It also comes with audiovisual alerts that combine with dynamically lit panels to provide an intuitive experience and notifies security personnel of any invalid entry attempts.

The barcode reader itself is unobtrusive and the integrated solution minimized the effect it had on the turnstile design. In addition to the visitor bar code requirement, several of the SU5000 units had to provide provisions to mount two separate credential readers. Alvarado provided a solution where one of the readers was installed underneath the turnstile lid and the other was seamlessly mounted onto the end of the turnstile cabinet. This allowed for three separate readers to be mounted on the extremely thin SU5000.

Customer Response

The response from the end user and the employees using Alvarado’s SU5000 optical turnstiles has been nothing but positive. In an effort to help educate users on how to operate the turnstiles, Alvarado provided an instructional video. This video was communicated within the organization so that when the equipment was installed, users were already familiar with its operation.

The turnstiles have proven to be highly reliable and blend beautifully with their surrounding environment. Security has vastly improved and the end user is now able to ensure that only valid users are allowed entry.
